چکیده

Nominal stresses have been used for a long time the assessment of fatigue resistance welded joints, however, this approach has strong limitations since definition nominal stress may be subjective complex details and/or loading. On other hand, hot-spot proposed to overcome these considering structural geometrical discontinuities. However, methods also present certain limitations, and study aims at evaluating available numerical analytical by DNVGL (2016) IIW (2014). The particular case an offshore tubular KT joint considered herein discretized in two planes. It studied numerically using ABAQUS software coupled with extrapolation described (2014) (2016). influence weld geometry evaluated. In addition method, derived from combination Efthymiou solutions concentration factor method superposition stresses. models according found more conservative when compared mesh-size (2016), both modelling without or weld. For cord, mean values normalized difference index obtained all braces together, as result comparing results solutions, are lower, cord.

Fatigue Life Assessment of Welded Joints Considering Crack Propagation Based on Hot Spot Stress

In this study, fatigue test and crack propagation analysis of welded joints in ships and offshore structures were performed. The test models have two types of welded joints, T-joint and double plate. Test data is presented in S-N curves obtained by the Hot Spot Stress (HSS) approach. The S-N data for each length of crack were appraised to define the fatigue life of crack initiation and propagat...

Fatigue Life of Repaired Welded Tubular Joints

In this study, the effect of repair on fatigue life of tubular joints is investigated. Six cracked specimens precedently subjected to fatigue loading undergone to weld repair. Two of those specimens were shot peened before primary fatigue loading.  It is shown that repair gives rise to about 150% increase in fatigue life for original specimens while the increase of fatigue life for shot-peened ...

Stress Concentration Factors in Uniplanar Tubular KT-Joints of Jacket Structures Subjected to In-Plane Bending Loads

In the present research, data extracted from the stress analysis of 46 finite element models, verified using test results obtained from an experimental investigation, were used to study the effect of geometrical parameters on the chord-side stress concentration factors (SCFs) of central and outer braces in uniplanar tubular KT-joints of offshore structures subjected to four different types of i...

Hot Spot Stress Determination for a Tubular T-Joint under Combined Axial and Bending Loading

Finite element analysis of a tubular T-joint subjected to various loading conditions including pure axial loading, pure in-plane bending (IPB) and different ratios of axial loading to in-plane bending loading has been carried out. This effort has been established to estimate magnitudes of the peak hot spot stresses (HSS) at the brace/chord intersection and to find the corresponding locations as...

distribution of stress concentration factors along the weld toe of tubular kt-joints in truss bridges

many research works have been accomplished so far on the computation of stress concentration factors (scfs) for various types of tubular joints. almost all these studies have focused on values of the scf at the saddle and crown positions, and they have ignored the hss at other locations along weld toe. however, scf distribution is very important for predicting the fatigue crack growth, determin...
